Omega Fleet's Story

Sal'kiir & the Creation of Omega Fleet

Although known to the Federation for a long time, the Sal’kiir have never requested to join. They have been, in fact, adverse to it. Although agreeable to trading pacts, they have notoriously been an insular race beyond that. Because of their connection to the planet, they rarely leave their home world for a long time, unless it’s to move to one of the smaller worlds they’ve colonized in their system that have the same nature as Sal’kiir and thus support them the same.

However, within the past decade, the Sal’kiir’s technological advancements in the creation of a new propulsion system has made them a target for alliance. Although the engine was created to make it easier for them to travel away from home, they discovered that it could be used on any ship with great effect.

With the speed of a slipstream drive but at just under one half the space required, this system is highly attractive to everyone around Sal’kiir–the Federation, the Cardassians, the Breen, the Tholians, and even a few further-flung races such as the Romulans and Klingons. The Sal’kiir, and their historically insular nature, have been cautious about sharing information about the drive and how it’s made and used, as well as determining who to ally themselves with.

In early 2418, the Sal’kiiran Central Government made a decision. They petitioned to join the United Federation of Planets.

As one could expect, this displeased everyone else and many have not taken the choice peacefully. As a new Federation member, the already-stretched Starfleet has rushed to put plans in place to protect their new allies, and their new technology.

And so, Omega Fleet was created. Personnel and ships were relocated, and space stations and colonies put on rush implementation in a hastily defined territory around the Sal’kiir System.

Out-of-Character Notes: Omega Fleet was created in the summer of 2018 as a simming organization to adhere to certain ideals and goals. It’s founded on the goals of healthy fleet-to-sim communication and support, diversity and flexibility in simming styles, and strong storytelling. As some of the sims and characters transitioned to Omega Fleet from another organization, some of that organization's timeline and history has been included in our own.
